A Legacy of Service Continued
Since 1937, Smith’s Men’s Store has been the cornerstone of Chicago’s North Shore menswear scene, bringing personalized service to an industry that thrives off of personal connections and recommendations. Today, under the leadership of Trey Gonzales and Kip Helverson, this proud tradition continues—modernizing the experience while staying rooted in the values that have made Smith’s a trusted name for generations.

Our Story
In 2019, Trey Gonzales and Kip Helverson purchased Smith’s Men’s Store, confident in the lasting value of in-person shopping. Their vision proved right. Within two years, they had doubled the store’s footprint, transforming it into a 2,500-quare-foot destination for North Shore gentlemen.
In 2024, we opened our second location in Winnetka, IL. The demand was clear as men from across the North Shore had been asking us to bring Smith’s closer to their communities, and we listened. When the perfect space became available, we knew it was time. We proudly opened our doors in November 2024, extending our commitment to quality, style, and service to even more of the North Shore.
Today, Smith’s offers thoughtfully curated collections designed to suit the evolving style of men at every stage of life. From those just building their wardrobes to those refining s well-established look, our offerings reflect timeless quality, modern versatility, and impeccable craftsmanship.
At Smith’s, the philosophy is simple:
The collections suit the unique needs and tastes of men aged 16 to 90-plus. From bespoke shirts to boys’ clothing for special occasions, every item reflects our commitment to quality, style, and exceptional service.
Whether you’re shopping for a wedding, a first job interview, or just everyday refinement, Smith’s is here to help you look and feel your best. Come by and see what for yourself. A smile and a conversation are waiting for you at either of our locations in Lake Forest or in Winnetka.
